Training summary

Preparation for the Master's degree in health biology is organized with the support of the research units attached to the Health Training and Research Unit (UFR).

The Master offers general preparation for Master 1 (M1) students in the disciplines of health biology with a view to approaching the three courses of Master 2 (M2) in a more specific and specialized manner:

  • Tropical infectious diseases

  • Chronic and metabolic diseases

  • Vulnerabilities and development

Training aims

The general objective of this master's degree is to train students in the understanding of physiological (M1) and pathological (2) mechanisms in humans in their environment by addressing in particular major public health problems in Reunion such as type II diabetes associated with obesity or even infectious diseases such as chikungunya or leptospirosis.

The student will be trained in cellular and molecular functional exploration techniques with the identification of new therapeutic strategies involving, for example, molecules from the biodiversity of the Indian Ocean area.

Advantages of the training

Training through and for research will allow the student to develop ultimately translational projects going from cell to patient with cohort studies. It allows students to access theoretical and practical lessons.

Training is provided by both university and hospital staff and researchers from large research organizations.

Targeted skills

The objectives in terms of know-how and skills to be acquired are clearly set out at the level of the courses. These specific objectives are enriched by more general and transversal objectives at the level of the mention.

Students in the health biology major are intended to perform managerial functions in academic or private sectors of activity, linked to biology/health, on a conceptual, technical or commercial level.
Graduates will be able to take charge of a project, a typical beginner's mission, in complete autonomy, while integrating into an organization and a team.

Students will have to appropriate and master the most recent concepts in health biology while implementing regulations in terms of clinical research, animal experiments, hygiene and safety, etc.
