Training summary

The University Bachelor of Biological Engineering Technology (BUT GB) trains profession of senior technician or assistant engineer.

This training allows students to carry out and analyze experiments in the field of life, research, analyze and present data, make proposals in response to a biological problem.



Training aims

The BUT GB food sciences and biotechnology course allows you to carry out activities in the fields of agri-food, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The students learn to innovate in food sciences and biotechnology, organize the production of food and biomolecules, leading Quality management, Health, Safety (QHSE), and the environment in the food and beverage industriesiotechnology.

Advantages of the training

By integrating a BUT, students benefit from an integrated 3-year course, without additional selection to reach the License grade.

The graduation is aligned with international standards and facilitates exchanges with foreign universities.

A University Diploma of Technology (DUT) is awarded at the end of the second year.

With the BUT, the University Institutes of Technology (IUT) are strengthening their strengths: students continue to benefit from university and technological education supervised by experienced mixed teaching teams. The course is always structured around professional situations and periods in business.

This training can be done alternately in the 2nd and 3rd years. Work-study is the opportunity to train and acquire a higher education diploma while benefiting from professional experience and remuneration.

The training is organized into 4 skill blocks:

  • Carry out analyzes in the fields of biology

  • Experimenting in biological engineering

  • Lead the management of quality, hygiene, safety and the environment in the food and biotechnology industries

  • Organize the production of food and biomolecules


22 to 26 weeks of internship in Reunion, in the Indian Ocean zone or abroad.
2 or 3 internships in a company are to be carried out: 8 to 12 weeks over the first 4 semesters and 12 to 16 weeks over the last year.
