Situation
I am blind. I navigate from link to link with my vocal synthesis and I come across a multitude of “click here”. I have no idea what these links point to. Will I have to consult them all? Not all of them are useful to me.
Information
Links, also called hyperlinks or hyperlinks, are positioned on one or more words, or on a clickable image. They allow you to navigate between different web pages, or to reach a file.
The link label is represented by the set of generally underlined words on which one clicks or by the alternative to the image if it is clickable.
The label must be relevant, that is to say, provide information on the action triggered by the link.
Recommendations
For each link label:
- make clear and explicit formulations of the action that will be triggered;
- Prohibit “click here”;
- For a link to a page or another site: specify where the visitor will be redirected;
- For an image, do the same thing in the alternative to the image;
- For files, indicate the extension and the size of the file at the end of the link. Example : Download the Disability Mission presentation sheet (pdf; 1,1 MB).
