The project entitled “Being an author and actor of oneself”, aimed to have young people with sensory disabilities practice an art that is often little or not accessible to them. By advocating confidence and surpassing oneself, the second objective (no pun intended) was to break down the barriers of disability and create a link between two worlds with different benchmarks.

Through photography, the young people put their self-portraits into images and sound, in co-action with the photographer Stéfan Grippon, resident artist at the institution. The multidisciplinary team of the Resource, supporting young people on a daily basis, provided its support and expertise in the adaptations necessary to carry out this audacious project.

Concretely, eight young visually impaired people and seven young hearing impaired people presented their self-portraits in the form of a photographic triptych. A self-portrait is not a simple portrait of oneself, it can be a representation of oneself, of one's desires, of one's past, a trait of one's personality, a projection on one's future. These images are the result of a personal reflection on one's own identity, encouraging one to value oneself, in order to reveal oneself to others.

IRSAM La Ressource is made up of an Institute for the Hearing and Visually Impaired (IDA-IDV), a Support Service for Family and School Education (SSEFS) and an Acquisition Assistance Service of Autonomy and Schooling (SAAAS). The multidisciplinary team offers multiple services aimed at the autonomy and inclusion of beneficiaries.
