To celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Art and Culture Department, in partnership with the Equality Department, invites you to discover or rediscover La ciociara (The barefoot peasant woman), a masterpiece of Italian neorealist cinema directed by Vittorio De Sica.

Synopsis: During World War II, Cesira, a young Roman widow, flees the bombings with her daughter Rosetta to take refuge in a village in the Italian mountains, in Ciociaria. As the war catches up with them, they must face the horrors of the conflict and the violence inflicted by the troops. The film explores the mother-daughter relationship and the deep trauma caused by a brutal act of violence that will mark their lives forever.
