The World Mosquito Program (WMP) is a non-profit group owned by Monash University in Australia that works to protect the global community from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever and chikungunya .

Since the first releases of mosquitoes carrying the Wolbachia bacteria in 2011, evidence from international pilot studies shows that it is possible to use Wolbachia more widely to reduce the risk of virus transmission from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes . Multiple trials in different locations demonstrate that this method is a safe and effective way to help prevent the spread of disease across entire cities and regions. The World Mosquito Program (WMP) continues to rapidly expand its operations by partnering with local governments and communities around the world who are adopting the Wolbachia method.
