1st edition of the French-Creole bilingual eloquence competition: discover the winners!

Forlane ROBERT and Maïla ATTOUMANI, winning pair of the 2024 edition

Great success for the 1st edition of the French-Creole bilingual eloquence competition which had the theme: “Leap into the void; stupid anler.”

Its purpose is to promote the Creole language and culture with the fundamental coexistence of the French language used on a daily basis.

Event organized as part of the Cordées de la Success by the University of La Réunion. In collaboration with the Academy, theINSPÉ and Illett.

It also highlights the exercise of public speaking: an essential practice for expressing oneself in front of an audience, even an essential skill for future teachers or for high school students preparing for the baccalaureate oral exams. It is in this sense in particular that this competition is open to both Master MEEF students and high school students from approved establishments. Developing an argument, convincing and moving people, overcoming shyness, arming yourself with the sword of courage, so many facets to demonstrate during an eloquence competition.

A little less than three weeks were allocated to the 8 candidates, formed into 4 pairs, for the preparation of their speeches with supervision by 4 tutors. Presented in front of the members of the jury, the grand oral was held this Wednesday, June 19, 2024 on the INSPÉ Bellepierre site. Halfway through the proceedings, there is a Creole atmosphere (interpretation of Georges Brassens to the sound of the guitar, Creole riddles and musical quiz) within the amphitheater almost full of pimps, families, friends, teachers, chefs. establishments…

The originality of the French-Creole Bilingual Speech Competition is based on mixed participation of candidates. They must speak in pairs (a student with a high school student) and on a bilingual presentation of the speeches (Creole and French).

A satisfactory first edition

Satisfied with this first edition, the Rector's Advisor and Head of the Regional Academic Delegation for Information, Orientation and the fight against dropping out of school, Michel MULLER (representative of the Rector for the event) as well as the Vice -President of the Board of Directors in charge of Training and University Life, Jérôme GARDODY, join forces to underline the strong partnership which links the two institutions within the framework of the Cordées de la Réussite:

“This is a system created to allow young people to plan for higher education regardless of their background and their original baccalaureate. Launched in November 2008, the Cordées de la voix designate partnerships between higher education establishments known as “heads of ropes” and high schools or colleges known as “sources” which welcome a significant number of young people from modest backgrounds or isolated areas. . Since 2020, this system has been the subject of a new impetus to provide a real lever for equal opportunities, through which the continuous support and guidance of young people are aimed.

Congratulations to all the participants in this first adventure! Appointment is made for the next edition of the French-Creole bilingual eloquence competition.
