Training summary

Training objectives

  • Raise awareness, inform, consolidate, train on historical, linguistic, cultural, educational, psychological (intercultural, clinical, social, development and education), anthropological, sociological and economic issues for a good understanding of the learning public in difficulty in the South-West of the Indian Ocean
  • Learn to identify and motivate people at risk of dropping out, illiteracy or lack of literacy (oral – written – reading – writing)
  • Promote learner motivation for voluntary learning, for a conscious entry into writing and speaking adapted to professional and communication situations
  • Develop targeted tools that can be adjusted to the needs and demands of people struggling to master key skills

Advantages of the training

For several decades, measures to prevent and combat illiteracy and illiteracy in Réunion have been at the heart of the priorities set by the public authorities.

To date, the training offers proposed by the players in this territory remain scattered; they have followed one another but due to lack of resources they have not lasted. The direct consequence of this lack of continuity is an insufficient professionalization of the players in the sector which has an impact on the quality of services provided to audiences in great difficulty.

The University of La Réunion, signatory of the Partnership Charter "Act to read, read to act" (2011-2015) is a stakeholder in this territorial dynamic thus formalized. By renewing its commitment to the new regional plan for the mastery of key skills (2021-2027), it intends to respond to a need for university training and graduation of field actors.

– This is a professional training course alternating academic teaching and professional teaching, focused on the participants' practice.

– It associates in partnership with the University of La Réunion and the Institute of Illiteracy and Languages ​​of the Indian Ocean, the Regional Council of La Réunion, the State, the academy, the National Agency for the Fight against Illiteracy.

– The teaching team is mixed. It includes not only academics (teacher-researchers, practical teachers from the University specializing in learning and entry into writing and speaking) but also professionals.

– Training accessible to people with disabilities.

Targeted skills

At the end of the training, graduates will be able to:

  • Identify the different situations and different audiences with learning difficulties (reading, writing – oral – written),
  • analyze, design, lead and evaluate a training sequence, projects and tools aimed at young people and adults with linguistic difficulties,
  • analyze needs and propose training engineering adapted to the specific issues of the audiences concerned,
  • lead partner networks in the construction of learning and key skills.

BLOCK 1 – Knowledge of audiences (40 hours)

  • UE1 – Interdisciplinary approach (sociolinguistic, linguistic, cultural, social, educational, anthropological… of plural societies of the southwest Indian Ocean between oral transmissions and entry into writing: the case of Reunion (16h)
  • UE2 – Migration and illiteracy in the Indian Ocean (12 hours)
  • UE3 – Language biographies, life paths and informal skills (12 hours)

BLOCK 2 – Educational engineering (60h)

  • UE4 – Fight against illiteracy and illiteracy: historical and terminological insights (10h)
  • UE5 – Analysis of training systems, policy and strategies for preventing and combating illiteracy: specific tools – Innovation and entrepreneurship (20h)
  • UE6 – Analysis of practices and construction of professional gestures (15 hours)
  • UE7 – Internship methodology (15 hours)

BLOCK 3 – Didactic reflections and educational tools (50 hours)

  • UE8 – Building a session, programming progression, designing assessments (8 hours)
  • UE9 – Innumeracy and illiteracy: successfully entering digital writing (8 hours)
  • UE10 – Analysis and construction of learning materials (creation of card games, Indian Ocean photolanguage) (8 hours)
  • UE11 – Project-based teaching with an adult audience (creative writing workshops) (8 hours)
  • UE12 – Learning to read/write: teaching methods and approaches (8 hours)

Provisional training schedule:

Duration of training: 150 hours (face-to-face teaching or e-learning) from October to June N+1

Estimated hours: 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. / 13:00 p.m.–16:30 p.m. (7 hours per Friday maximum)

– 3 Fridays/month in person (Moufia campus or Bellepierre site)

– 1 Friday / month in asynchronous or synchronous distance learning

 

Assessment methods:

All UEs are subject to continuous assessment (session 1) according to specific procedures that will be communicated and specified by the teaching team at the start of the training: each continuous assessment will be designed under the responsibility of the speaker in charge of the teaching concerned and the pedagogical manager of the training. Within the skills blocks, the organization between written and oral tests is as follows:

Block 1: UE 1 and 2 = written 1 hour; UE 3 = file + oral 1 hour

Block 2: UE 4 = file + oral 1 hour; UE 7 = writing of an internship report with oral defense.

EU 5 and 6 = written 1 hour

Block 3: EU 8, 10 and 13 = file + oral 1 hour;

EU 9, 10, 11 and 12: written 1 hour

Stage

50-hour internship within an institution or organization involved in the field of prevention or the fight against illiteracy issues.

Conditions of access to training

This training is aimed at holders of a national diploma or a qualification equivalent to the baccalaureate and/or holders of the title of Professional Adult Trainer (FPA).

It concerns:

  • Any professional in the socio-educational field interested in the issue of illiteracy and literacy: educators, social workers, teachers, consultants, mediators, youth mission managers, community center staff, psychologists, magistrates, justice personnel, etc.
  • All persons undergoing professional retraining in connection with trainer training
  • All professionals in the public and private sectors responsible for people who have difficulty with writing and speaking

Candidates who do not have the required level of diploma may nevertheless apply. After deliberation by the selection committee, in the event of a favorable opinion, they will be able to join the training under the VAPP
