Advantages of the training

This training aims to train professionals and students (medical interns, Master 2 and doctoral students) from the medical-psychological, social, educational or legal fields in the modalities of the transcultural approach.

This is a professional training course alternating academic teaching and professional teaching, focused on practice.

More precisely, it is a question of understanding the interest of taking into account the cultural dimension in a clinical system but also in any approach to social, educational or legal support.

The training integrates both theoretical teachings and practical perspectives. The theoretical foundations and models of transcultural clinical psychology are presented with a particular anchoring in the societies of the Indian Ocean. To do this, the training integrates teachings in the context of Reunion Island and the societies of the Indian Ocean as well as in the fields of religion, cults, rites and spiritualities. The transcultural clinical system is presented in detail, both in terms of its history and its concrete implementation within institutional structures. Finally, the training offers participants a practical application and the development of a professional posture.

The teaching team is mixed. It includes academics (lecturer-researchers from the University) as well as practitioners (psychologists, anthropologists, etc.).

The training is accessible to people with disabilities.

Targeted skills

The training provides the following skills:

  • Understanding the approach and methodology of the transcultural clinical device
  • Ability to establish an appropriate professional posture and practice when dealing with a patient/user, taking into account cultural otherness
  • Ability to support a care project, a social or educational project in an intercultural environment
  • Relational competence and practice of transcultural clinical interview
