Training summary

In collaboration between the Indian Oceanic Digital Institute of the university and the Center for Digital Humanities of the University of Mascareignes (UdM).

This Master's degree is aimed at students in human and social sciences (information-communication, literature, history, etc.), computer science, economics, and management. It offers theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of computer science, arts, and human sciences to integrate the sectors of research (digitization, management and analysis of databases, inventory, transmission of results, etc.), cultural and creative industries, education, and access to new digital creation professions within organizations.

Training objectives

The training provided covers the essential scientific and technical knowledge and skills to be acquired in the field of IT, culture and the humanities. It must enable graduates to access higher studies at Doctorate level or to positions in public or private organizations. The training offers the discovery of the cultural and creative industries and the challenges of their development. It also allows you to understand technological advances in the cultural and creative industries, particularly in terms of programming, algorithms, computer networks and databases, and to develop project management skills.

Advantages of the training

The Master in Continuing Education provides innovative teaching through its online courses and on-site groups. Online teaching offers the opportunity to combine the experiences of international experts. The tools offered by the Moodle platforms, webinars and web TV programs provide multimodal teaching allowing you to understand the lessons taught at your own pace. The on-site groups are organized in the form of research seminars allowing discovery of the scientific environment for pursuing a doctorate. Other groups also offer to take stock of online teaching by working in groups on projects. The work-study program offered within an organization is an asset for acquiring professional experience during the two years of the master's degree.

The partnership between the University of Reunion and the Mascarenes makes it possible to obtain a master's degree in co-degree (French and Mauritian)

Summary of lessons by course

EU 1 and EU 4 offer knowledge on the legal, economic and cultural environment of digital humanities and its sectors of activity (new media, cultural industries), on communication and writing strategies such as storytelling.

EU 2: provides knowledge around the design of attractive websites compatible with different browsers and in programming

EU 3 and EU 5: address the approaches to the design of information systems and knowledge, project management and the establishment of research seminars for the writing of a research dissertation

Duration of training: 425 hours (Master 1) and 255 hours (Master 2) from October to June N+1

Stage

Learners have the choice between a 16-week internship in a company or the creation of their own start-up. The internship report will be written in English or French. The defense of the internship will be done in front of a panel including professionals and lecturers, in English and/or French.

Learners must complete a Dissertation, which is divided into 2 parts: the first part is submitted in Master 1 and the final work in Master 2. The defense will be done in front of a panel including internal and external lecturers at the UR/UdM

Conditions of access to training

The Master in Digital Humanities follows the LMD system and lasts two years.

The Indian Oceanic Digital Institute (IIN) of the University of Reunion and the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) of the UdM welcomes those with a BAC+3/License in all sectors to enroll in a Master's program 1:

  • License/BAC+3 or equivalent
  • The application file must be completed.
  • A very good command of English and French is required.

Master 2: Success in Master 1

The IIN and the CDH reserve the right to request language proficiency tests.
