Educational objectives and training opportunities

Educational goals :

In light of national public health challenges, as well as regional specificities with more unfavorable perinatal indicators, this training program aims to prepare future professionals with a level of competence suited to their future practice. The Advanced Training Diploma in Midwifery Sciences (DFASMa) is based on the midwifery competency framework to provide students with the necessary foundations for building their future professional identity. The educational objectives of the program are to prepare students to be:

  • A future professional whose skills are in line with the expected requirements,
  • A future professional recognized and valued for their skills,
  • A future professional capable of maintaining a level of professionalism appropriate to the user,
  • A future professional trained in clinical medical reasoning and research,
  • A future reflective professional, capable of analyzing their own actions and thoughts in order to develop them, improve them, and above all, learn from them.

The apprenticeship is based on a work-study training system. The student is at the heart of the process, which optimizes their learning and professional development. It contributes to building the skills of the future professional.

This training system allows for the emergence and production of meaning. and therefore requires the student to confront their knowledge with action. They adopt a reflective stance in order to conduct reflection during and about the action.

During their internship, the learner also becomes aware of their limitations and gaps in knowledge, identifies areas for further work, and returns to the training center seeking additional certainty or theoretical knowledge. The practical experience is thus subject to a training-oriented approach.

This process enables the student to transfer knowledge. They will be able to address new situations to integrate new skills, or to apply what they have learned in previous situations. Gradually, the student develops their clinical judgment.

"Learning is a process that results in a relatively permanent change in the way a student thinks, feels, and acts."
