Training summary
The Economic and Social Administration (AES) degree is a multidisciplinary course that trains versatile professionals who primarily master the language of law, economics, management and secondarily that of sociology, statistics and office automation.
The aim of the Bachelor's degree in Economics and Social Administration (AES) is to provide students with a solid foundation in the various humanities and social sciences. Graduates are thus prepared to assume positions of responsibility in both the private sector and public administration. This degree program therefore offers a multidisciplinary education focused on economics, accounting and management, law, and sociology.
Educational objectives and training opportunities
Educational goals :
The AES (Economics and Social Administration) degree aims to provide students with a fundamental, versatile, and structured education in the main disciplines of the humanities and social sciences: law, economics, management, sociology, accounting, and statistics. It seeks to develop in them the ability to analyze contemporary economic and social issues, a nuanced understanding of legal and organizational mechanisms, and the capacity to apply management tools in diverse contexts.
The educational program combines theoretical and applied teaching, professional simulations and interdisciplinary work, in order to develop autonomy, rigor, critical thinking and adaptability, in connection with the expectations of the socio-economic world and territorial dynamics.
Upon completion of the program, graduates should be able to hold middle management positions in all sectors of activity, or pursue further studies at the Master's level (public law, public administration, management, human resources, etc.). Future graduates are thus prepared to assume positions of responsibility in both the private sector and public administrations.
Training opportunities:
- Objectives and purpose of the training:
The AES license includes several objectives:
- Knowledge acquired through the acquisition of a general culture in law, economics and management sciences (accounting, project management, quantitative techniques) and cross-cutting knowledge necessary for any manager open to the environment of their company or administration (compulsory foreign language each semester and digital tools)
- Skills acquired through the method and reasoning specific to different disciplines, such as mastery of documentary and bibliographic research tools, as well as methods of written and oral exercises and analytical techniques.
- It also allows students to develop transferable skills (foreign languages, digital skills, etc.) with a professional focus through the creation of a career plan. The program is structured into six semesters, emphasizing progression, specialization, and the clarity of the available pathways. The study of a foreign language is mandatory in every semester of the bachelor's degree, and instruction related to digital tools is included in most semesters.
The training program is aligned with the educational guidelines and thematic priorities of the institution.
The training is part of the various strategic objectives, particularly that relating to strengthening the management of the training offer for a better match with the needs of the territory and beyond.
Indeed, the AES Bachelor's degree is included in the new course offerings (2026-2029), notably with the continuation of the "yes, if" programs, including Individualized Pathway 2 (remediation) and Individualized Pathway 3, a two-year program in the first year (L1), to ensure student success. The AES Bachelor's degree will continue the Preparatory Pathway for Primary School Teachers (PPPE) until the completion of the last cohort (academic year 2027-2028) due to the teacher training reform and the creation of the Primary School Teacher Training Bachelor's degree (LPE) starting in the 2026-2027 academic year at the National Higher Institute for Teaching and Education (INSPÉ).
Furthermore, the course will implement, like all other first-year courses at the institution, teaching related to the Ecological Transition for Sustainable Development (TEDS) in the first year.er cycle culminating in certification.
Furthermore, we also align ourselves with the objectives of strengthening educational innovations: flipped classroom pedagogy in certain subjects, projects to be completed in the third year of undergraduate studies (L3), certifications in French language proficiency, computer science (Pix), and foreign languages, as well as opportunities through... Massive open online race – MOOCs (such as those relating to cybersecurity or the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The Licence also responds to the thematic priorities of the University of Reunion (UR) on the specificities of the islands and overseas territories as well as by addressing environmental issues through application examples used in many courses.
Advantages of the training
The strengths of the training are:
- A multidisciplinary training Combining law, economics, management, sociology, and statistics, this program allows students to acquire a comprehensive understanding of contemporary economic and social issues at different scales (Réunion Island, their regional area, France, the European Union, and internationally). This generalist training develops analytical, legal, and organizational skills that can be directly applied in numerous sectors.
- increasingly personalized and professional training programs : individualized pathways in L1 (remediation pathway, extended study pathway) adapted to student profiles; tutoring; self-remediation and assessment mechanisms in a continuous learning progression approach; recognition of intra- and extra-university student engagement including the mandatory internship; awarding of an internal English certification at the end of L3; possibilities of obtaining qualifying certifications outside of Modern Foreign Language (LVE) in the future.
- A teaching team aware of educational innovations as well as the opportunities and threats created by theartificial intelligence.
- A preparation adapted to mobility abroad currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree and at further studies in Master's programs, in Reunion Island but also in the best universities in mainland France.
- The realisation of individual or group projects (credited with ECTS credits), projects that require the application of several skills related to mastering quantitative, qualitative, writing, and comprehension techniques (reflective approach) through results analysis. These are essential skills for theoccupational integration skills developed in several units that can be used in a business or public administration context, including soft skills, knowledge and self-esteem.

L1 AES – Individualized 3-in-2-Year Program (lengthening of studies) The L1 modules are spread over two years, with the first year of track 3 comprising half of the curriculum to allow students sufficient time to work on and validate these courses. The second year of track 3 will include the remaining L1 modules (in addition to those not validated in the first year of track 3).
Preparatory course for primary school teachers (PPPE) A core curriculum (representing 75% to 25% of the student workload from year 1 to year 3) is dedicated to preparing students for the Competitive Examination for Primary School Teacher Recruitment (CRPE). This curriculum includes French, mathematics, history and geography, science and technology, a foreign language, philosophy, arts, and physical education throughout the Bachelor's degree. Each semester, this curriculum is supplemented by one course from year 1 or year 2 of the Economics and Social Administration (AES) program, covering economics, law, and sociology, in exchange for four economics courses and one law course from year 3 of the AES program.
