The Master's in Notarial Law offers highly specialized, top-tier training in the subjects at the heart of notarial practice. The courses allow students to delve deeper into subjects presented at the Bachelor's level, such as the law of obligations or company law, and also provide an initial introduction in the first year of the Master's program (M1), followed by further study in the second year (M2) of subjects specific to notarial practice, such as the law of matrimonial property regimes, the law of inheritance and gifts, and notarial ethics.

Note the tutorials in advanced company law, inheritance and gift law, and business law in difficulty.

Many courses are shared with other Master's programs in Law at the Faculty of Law and Economics of Reunion Island. However, some courses specific to the Notarial Law specialization are only taught within this program:

Inheritance and gift law is taught in lectures but is also the subject of tutorials: the Master 1 Notarial Law is the only course in the Faculty of Law and Economics of Reunion Island to offer tutorials in this subject.

Students have a choice between:

Complete a 30-day internship and produce an internship report OR carry out research work and produce a research paper.

Students must complete a 2-month internship in a notary's office and produce an internship report. ET to conduct research and produce a research paper. The work will culminate in an oral defense.

Specific teaching methods

M2: classes are held on weekdays from 17pm to 20pm and on Saturday mornings from 7am to 13pm. This organization allows students to complete their mandatory 2-month internship in a notary's office, and also allows employees to continue their studies while maintaining their professional activity.

Expectations for admission to the training program

  • Having an excellent academic level
  • Have professional experience in the field of notarial practice; demonstrate analytical, summarization, and writing skills.
  • To be rigorous, committed and respectful of the rules of the establishment and host structure concerned
  • Demonstrate a coherence between the candidate's academic and professional project and the training, as well as the choice of the relevant Master's program at the University of Reunion Island.
  • Prioritize stability and consistency in experiences related to the notarial sphere.

General criteria for reviewing applications

  • Particular attention will be paid to the candidate's grades and marks from the different years of their post-baccalaureate studies, especially in core subjects and those relevant to the notarial field.
  • The Curriculum Vitae (CV) and cover letter submitted by the candidate will provide an opportunity for him to demonstrate his professional experience and the aforementioned expertise.
  • Any recommendations from the candidate would be an asset.

Depending on the student's situation, applications for admission to the first year of the Master's program (M1) follow three specific procedures (the national platform MonMaster, Études en France, Validation of Acquired Experience). Students holding a Master's degree in Notarial Law have full access to the Diploma of Higher Studies in Notarial Law (DESN) in order to obtain the notary diploma.
Pursuing a doctorate can also be considered.
