Approaches from ethnology and anthropology are essential to understanding the societies, languages and cultures of the southwest Indian Ocean.
This Master's degree in anthropology, social and cultural anthropology of the Indian Ocean, offers to strengthen and deepen knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's degree in social sciences or in other baccalaureate + 3 level training courses, linked to the humanities and social.
It also aims to train students in research in anthropology, with a view to writing a research dissertation but also with a broader perspective of professionalization or future registration in a thesis.

The Master in Anthropology provides specialized teaching in cultural areas (Europe, Indian Ocean) and trains in and through research in courses and seminars led by researchers.
The objective of the Master in Anthropology is to show that anthropology is constructed in the back and forth between a precise ethnography of the societies studied and theoretical reflection.
This Master aims to give students the keys to decode and better understand the local context of Reunion Island as well as that of societies in the Indian Ocean.

The intervention of international invited experts. and teacher-researchers from Europe and the Indian Ocean (ERASMUS+ program) at the Master's seminar level will make it possible to complete and diversify this training in and through research.
Links with university and professional bodies in Indian Ocean countries will allow students to do their internship in the island and territorial contexts of Indian Oceania.
Targeted skills
- Use theoretical frameworks from anthropology to construct a research object
- Implement a field survey adapted to a national, regional or local research theme. This requires knowing how to make observations, whether participants or not, and to carry out interviews.
- Represent in writing (research report, dissertation, article) the results of a research
- Orally present personal research or a synthesis of work carried out by others and respond in an argumentative manner to questions and criticisms formulated by listeners
