Description of the WEU
This UEO aims to prepare students wishing to become French language assistants in secondary schools abroad. It is primarily aimed at students with a good command of French and who wish to experience intercultural teaching in a school setting.
The main objective is to acquire the basics of teaching French as a foreign language (FLE), in order to be able to design and lead simple educational activities in class, in conjunction with the regular teacher.
During the 20 hours of training, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of FLE:
– the specificities of French as a foreign language and the diversity of audiences;
– the basic principles of language teaching;
– management of interaction in class and the assistant’s posture;
– the creation of oral and fun activities promoting expression and understanding;
– awareness of intercultural issues and the role of linguistic and cultural ambassador.
The approach will be resolutely practical and interactive: role-playing, analysis of teaching sequences, workshops for creating materials, discussions on experiences
lived experiences or concrete cases.
This unit will enable future language assistants to approach their mission with confidence, by better understanding their role and having concrete tools to intervene in an effective and motivating manner in the language classroom.
