Description of the WEU

From collective entertainment to religious practices, including the socio-political uses of music, this course focuses on the place that music occupies in human societies. It looks at the diversity of musical and instrumental forms that are associated with these uses, as well as the way in which music long associated with particular cultural areas (Asia, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, etc.) circulates in the contemporary globalized world. The content of this course is illustrated by musical, iconographic and video examples. As far as possible, it will be linked to the current events of concerts scheduled in Reunion Island at the same time.
