The University of Reunion, the only French and European university in the Indian Ocean, has obtained the label Welcome to France in July 2019. It is thus one of the first twenty-five certified higher education establishments in the national territory. Since then, the establishment has continued to work to improve the reception of international students from all backgrounds.

Rewarded for the actions deployed since 2019, the agency Campus France just awarded him level 2 labelingfor 4 years.

A diversification of the number of nationalities

This label distinguishes establishments that offer clear and quality information to international students. The University of La Réunion sets up reception systems, educational support, an enriching campus life and follow-up after graduation.

In 2019, the university had 875 international students when it was awarded the label. Today, this figure has reached 949, with a growing diversity of nationalities.

Students from neighbouring countries in the Indian Ocean (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius) remain the most numerous. However, the university also welcomes students from various origins, such as Germans, Ethiopians, Indians, Canadians and Mexicans. This year, nearly 67 nationalities are represented.

The renewal of the label, accompanied by a new star, highlights the work of the administrative and teaching teams. It also strengthens the university's visibility internationally and supports its internationalization strategy for the period 2020-2025. This strategy aims to:

  • contribute to anchoring a culture of international relations within the establishment through increased mobility;
  • strengthen the positioning of the University of La Réunion in the Indian-Oceanic region
  • and participate in the construction of interconnected university ecosystems on a European scale.
