Excellence scholarships

The University of Reunion Island is committed to supporting international students and promoting academic excellence through prestigious scholarship programs. Among them, Horizon Excellence et France Excellence Eiffel offer students the opportunity to pursue high-level higher education in France, while benefiting from financial and academic support.

This program, which is fully in line with the regional cooperation strategy of the University of La Réunion, is aimed at students from 16 partner countries in the Indian Ocean region, and more particularly at students who aim to continue their studies in a doctorate, and if possible in joint supervision at the University of La Réunion.

Program objective

  • To raise awareness and recognition of the University of Reunion Island in the region and internationally as the largest French and European institution on the Africa-Asia axis
  • To provide quality training to student applicants
  • To offer international opportunities to students from the program's partner countries
  • Training doctoral students for the University of Reunion Island and for other countries
  • program partners to increase their teaching staff, with the possibility of joint supervision

Conditions for applying

  • students currently enrolled in Master 1 at a higher education institution located in one of the program's partner countries;
  • holders of a Master 1 or Master 2 obtained in a higher education institution located in one of the partner countries of the program.

Candidates wish to join a Master 2 at the University of Reunion Island, with the prospect, subject to selection conditions, of continuing on to a doctorate, in joint supervision or co-direction of thesis with their home university.

Applicants must not already be students or graduates of the University of Reunion Island or any other French university at the time of application. Students must demonstrate a minimum B2 level of French at the time of application.

Results = HORIZON Excellence Scholarships program

The Horizon Excellence Scholarships Allocation Committee for the year 2026-2027 will validate the successful applications. Selected candidates will then be informed by email.

Presentation of the program

The France Excellence Eiffel scholarship program is a system of excellence developed by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
It allows French higher education and research establishments to attract the best international students to Masters and Doctorate level degree courses.

The aim of this program is to train future foreign decision-makers in the public and private sectors in priority areas of study. 


Eligible domains

The two main disciplinary fields of the Eiffel scholarships cover seven thematic areas:

Science and technology:

  • Biology and health
  • Ecological transition
  • Mathematics and digital
  • Engineering and engineering sciences

Humanities and Social Sciences :

  • French history, language and civilization
  • Law and Political Science
  • Economics and Management

Schedule and procedure at the University of Reunion

Applications for the 2026 France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship are open open until November 21, 2025.

The application process takes place in six stages:

Step 1 – Eligibility Check

Step 2 – Request Pre-Application Form

Request the pre-application form by writing to the following address: incoming@univ-reunion.fr

Step 3 – Submission of the pre-application file

Complete the online form and include the required documents (according to the list specified in the form). The complete file must be submitted no later than November 21, 2025 at 23:59 p.m. (Reunion time).

⚠️ Only applications completed according to the online form, complete and sent no later than November 21, 2025 at 23:59 p.m. (Reunion time) will be considered.

Step 4 – Verification and educational advice

The Department of International Relations and Regional Cooperation (SRICR) checks the eligibility of applications and forwards the compliant files to the relevant educational managers for advice.

Step 5 – Transmission to Campus France

The International Relations and Regional Cooperation Service (SRICR) registers and submits successful applications to Campus France.

Step 6 – National Results

Campus France will send a letter of award to the winners the week of March 30, 2026.
