General and Vocational Colleges (CEGEPs) in Canada

Students enrolled at the University Institute of Technology (IUT) of the University of La Réunion have the opportunity to complete an exchange semester at a partner Cégep in Canada: 

  • CEGEP of Lévis-Lauzon (Quebec)
  • CEGEP André Laurendeau (Quebec)
  • CEGEP of Sherbrooke (Quebec)
  • CEGEP Saint Laurent (in the process of being signed)

To complete 1 semester in a CEGEP, you must: 

  • Be registered at the University of Reunion in the 2nd or 3rd year of BUT
  • Have a valid European passport
  • Good academic results
  • Have validated all the skills from all the semesters preceding their mobility
  • Proof of his motivation
  • Meet the admission requirements of the chosen study program and meet the specific requirements imposed by the host institution
  • Have academic results compatible with the course requested in the host establishment

Some specificities

Students from the Biological Engineering department can undertake a mobility period in semester 2 at the Biotechnology department of CEGEP de Lévis-Lauzon (Quebec), from January to July.

Students in the Business and Administration Management (GEA) and Marketing Techniques departments have the opportunity to complete their 4th semester at CEGEP André Laurendeau (Quebec). 

Students in the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department have the opportunity to complete their 4th semester at the CEGEP in Sherbrooke (Quebec).

Students in the Biological Engineering (GB) department have the opportunity to complete their 4th semester at the CEGEP de Lévis-Lauzon (Quebec).

Application form

Step 1: Before the start of the school year

Students who wish to apply must prepare the following for the start of the August academic year:

  • Transcripts of academic years in the higher year preceding the mobility
  • A CV and a cover letter
  • A European passport being valid for 6 months after the return date
  • A full extract of the birth certificate

Please note : students must check the conditions for immigration to Canada, and take care of carrying out all necessary procedures concerning it.

Step 2: Submission of the application

Students must submit their application on the Dedicated portal to outgoing mobility “Application – Study mobility”.

Selection of candidates

The selection of students takes place each year from the start of the school year in August for departure in January.

The teaching team of each corresponding department of the IUT gives its agreement to the outgoing mobility of its own students. 

Selection is based on academic achievement and motivation. A BUT student must have validated all the skills from all the semesters preceding their mobility.

Finalization of the file

  1. Study permit / Work permit

Students who wish to carry out a study mobility of one semester do not have the obligation to have a study permit

For students who wish to carry out a internship mobility, he is mandatory to obtain a work permit whether the internship is paid or not and whatever the duration

2. Insurance

Students registered at the University of Reception (UR) must enroll in the Quebec health insurance plan. If they are not eligible or cannot produce their RAMQ insurance card, they will be required to enroll in the Cégep's group insurance plan at their own expense, even if they already have insurance coverage in their country of origin.

Accommodation / Residence

Students are not automatically assigned accommodation; they are responsible for finding their own accommodation.

Administration/registration/tuition fees

Depending on the Cégep chosen: 

André-Laurendeau and Lévis-Lauzon Colleges : students with a French passport who register at Cégep only pay administrative fees; they are exempt from registration fees and tuition fees. 

(In 2025/2026, administrative costs were between $85 and $400, or between €50 and €250)

Sherbrooke College : Students with a French passport who enroll at Cégep only pay administrative and registration fees; they are exempt from the additional tuition fees applicable to international students. 

(In 2025/2026, the administrative costs were $388, or €240. And the registration fee was $20, or €13).

A mobility project is also being prepared on the financial level.

For IUT students undertaking internships abroad, additional assistance is available in obtaining a work permit.The IUT of Reunion Island will cover the cost of round-trip travel from Reunion Island to Mauritius to allow you to complete the work permit application process.

Please note These mobility grants are not intended to cover 100% of your expenses. You will need to carefully plan your mobility project.. The awarding of a scholarship is not automatic.

Students must complete their administrative and academic registration. Consult the "Financial Aspects" section for applicable administrative and registration fees, which vary depending on the Cégep.

Modification of the on-site study contract

The study contract may require modifications for various reasons: the study contract may give rise to timetable incompatibilities, course cancellations or courses limited by a pre-established number of places.

In this case, you must contact the professor at the University of Reunion, who helped you establish your study contract before departure, so that he or she can validate the modification(s) you wish to make.

Please note: any changes must receive prior approval and signature; otherwise, the stay may not be recognized upon return to Reunion Island to obtain the diploma.

Don't forget to download the study contract modification form and send it to the Department of International Relations and Regional Cooperation (SRICR) who will forward it to the educational manager.

The obligations :

1-Documents to be sent

Once there, the student will have documents to send to the Department of International Relations and Regional Cooperation (SRICR) :

  • Provide a copy of the study or internship contract approved by the host university, or modifications validated with it.
  • Provide proof of arrival at the establishment, necessary to make the first payments of mobility-related assistance.
2- Documents to be sent at the end of the stay

At the end of the stay, documents must be sent to the Department of International Relations and Regional Cooperation (SRICR) :

  • Certificate of end of stay or internship, required to pay you balances of aid linked to your Erasmus mobility.
  • Detailed mobility report
  • Submission of original transcripts: obtaining your results and/or your diploma can only be validated by the examination board in Reunion if these documents are provided within the given time limits.
