Erasmus +

Created in 1987, this European higher education program owes its name to Desiderius Erasmus Rotterdamus, known as Erasmus of Rotterdam (1465-1536), a Dutch humanist, philosopher and theologian who campaigned for peace in Europe.

The European Erasmus Programme (Community Action Programme in the field of Education) includes two mobility components for higher education: study stay at university and internship in Europe, the latter not being discussed here.

Created in 1987, Erasmus+ is the first European cooperation programme in higher education.
The Erasmus+ study trip : more than 1000 students from our University have already benefited from this system.

Academic recognition of mobility is a key element of the international policy of the University of La Réunion. By adhering to the Erasmus university charter, the University of Reunion is committed to managing study stays in compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) system.

Furthermore, each student going on a study mobility has a study contract.

For more information, please visit this document on academic recognition of mobility.

Financial support

A mobility project is also being prepared on the financial level.

To help you, there are several mobility aids.

Attention : these mobility aids are not intended to cover 100% of your expenses. You will need to carefully anticipate your Erasmus+ mobility (student job, financial contribution from relatives, etc.)

Here are the aids offered (which can be combined):

Erasmus+ assistance

This mobility aid is aimed at all students pre-selected by their component within the framework of the Erasmus+ program (without conditions of nationality or resources).

This mobility aid is made up of two parts:

  • Contribution to accommodation costs

The amount of the allowance is €26.20 per day. This is a partial allowance, which does not cover the entire duration of your stay.

Attention : the overall envelope granted to the University of La Réunion does not allow for 100% financing of the students' stay. A university commission decides on the amounts granted to students based on the available budgets.

For example, for the year 2024/2025, students who left for one semester received an allowance of 96 days, or €2515, and students who left for one year received an allowance of 165 days, or €4323.

  • Travel package (for membership of an overseas department)

Added to this is a round-trip travel package from Reunion to Europe, with a fixed amount varying according to the mileage between the University of Reunion (Moufia campus) and the host university. (see https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/fr/resources-and-tools/distance-calculator)

Please note: single package for the round trip and paid in one go.

  • 20% upon your return upon presentation of the end of stay certificate completed and signed by the partner university and the completeness of the online Erasmus+ questionnaire.

Regional Council mobility assistance (subject to change for the year 2025/26)

The Regional Council's assistance is intended for students who meet the following conditions:

  • Be under 28 years of age on October 1 of the year of mobility.

The amount of aid varies depending on the destination country. It is available to CROUS scholarship holders and non-scholarship holders.

Application files are centralized by the SRICR but the management of this mobility assistance (allocation commission, payment, etc.) is managed directly by the Regional Council.

The Regional Council will send us the certificate of eligibility containing the amount of the allocation granted, which the SRICR will transmit individually to the students.

Payment terms
  • 70% at the start of mobility
  • 30% upon your return after sending to the SRICR* a 5-page mobility report and your end of stay certificate completed and signed by the partner university.

The AMI (International Mobility Assistance) of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research

This aid only concerns social scholarship students from Higher Education with a scholarship notification for the year 2025/2026.

The amount of the allowance is approximately €13.33 per day. This is a partial allowance, which does not cover the entire duration of your stay.

The selection and the number of months of scholarship awarded are made by a university commission arbitrating between the files.

Selection criteria: previous academic results, cost of living in the host country, additional financial aid received by the student.

For information, students who went on mobility in 2024/2025 received 120 days of scholarship (i.e. €1600)

Important: Students receiving grants based on social criteria continue to receive their grant during their Erasmus+ mobility.

Payment terms

Mobility aid will only be paid if you return to the SRICR*:

  • A certificate of arrival at the start of the stay completed and signed by the host university
  • An end of stay certificate completed and signed by the host university

These two documents are completed and signed by the partner university. They are available for download here:  http://t.univ-reunion.fr/4139

Special cases

The Erasmus+ programme pays particular attention to reception, guidance and educational and technical support and, above all, to the additional costs associated with the mobility of individuals with disabilities. The aim is to ensure that every individual benefits fully from their European mobility experience.

Each higher education establishment, by signing the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), is committed to ensuring equal access and mobility opportunities for participants from all backgrounds. Consequently, individuals with disabilities can benefit from the support services that the host institution offers to its students and staff. Here for information is the notes.

Decree 2016—1483 of November 2, 2016 reinstated authorization to leave the territory for minors as of January 15, 2017 (article 371-6 of the civil code). This measure peut impact your “Erasmus+” mobility projects.

You will find attached the DGESCO information point which summarizes the decree of December 13, 2016, setting out the terms of application.

This formality is essential for outings, studies or internships outside the national territory. Establishments are responsible for collecting outing authorizations signed by the two legal guardians of the participating students. All minors residing in France regardless of their nationality are concerned

It will also be necessary to verify that minors have a copy of the identity document of their signing legal guardians when crossing the border.

Advice to travelers

Finally, it is strongly recommended to consult the “travel advice” section of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to find out the practical details of entry and security for the different countries and to register your student trips at the foreigner on the “Ariane” site to allow you to have real-time advice and recommendations on your trip.

These provisions have been developed to reinforce the level of security of the mobility of minors as part of their schooling and the education projects that you have built.

Once there

The student must first complete an administrative registration and an educational registration : registration fees are not due because they were paid to the University of La Réunion. A photocopying and public transport package can be requested, but these amounts remain low.

Modification of the on-site educational contract: for various reasons, the study contract may give rise to timetable incompatibilities, course cancellations or courses limited by a pre-established number of places.

In this case, you must contact the professor at the University of Reunion who helped you establish your study contract before leaving so that he can validate the modification(s) that you propose.

Please note: any modification must obtain prior agreement and signature otherwise the stay may not be validated upon return to Reunion to obtain the diploma.

Don't forget to download the study contract modification form to send to the SRICR* who will forward it to the educational manager.

Once there, the student will have documents to send to the SRICR*:

  • a copy of the study contract approved by the host university or the proposed modifications to the study contract in agreement with the host university,
  • a certificate of arrival at the Establishment, necessary to make the first payments of aid linked to your Erasmus+ mobility.

At the end of the stay

At the end of the stay, documents will also have to be sent to the SRICR*

  • the Erasmus+ end of stay certificate, necessary to pay you the balance of aid linked to your Erasmus mobility
  • of the detailed Erasmus+ mobility report required by the Europe Education Training France Agency
  • transmission of original transcripts to the DRI. Obtaining your result and/or your diploma can only be validated by the Examination Board in Reunion if these documents have been provided within the required time frame.
