2021-2023: 2 years of actions serving the establishment

Update on the institutional achievements of the presidential team and prospects for the establishment this Monday, September 11

Dear students, dear students,
Dear colleagues,
Dear partners,

Because it is always beneficial to focus on what has been done to approach the future, I suggest you take a few moments from this semester, already well underway, for a progress update on institutional achievements since 2021 and perspectives. for our establishment.

I invite you to take note of the projects undertaken and the actions carried out, compiled in the document below, available online by clicking here.

For two years and the journey through the health crisis linked to COVID-19, resilience and commitment have been our watchwords. Collectively, we were able to overcome the challenges that arose to focus on our public service mission.

These two years marked the successful transition towards the objective of embodying a benchmark higher education establishment, the eco-university of excellence and proximity of the Western Indo-Pacific.

Our student population has stabilized at around 19, a historically high number since the post-COVID year. Today in 000, the number of registrants remains stable, which confirms the attractiveness of our establishment beyond the previous health context. Despite this sharp increase in enrollment, we are today experiencing an increase in success rates in the first year of a degree, which rise from 2023 to 23% between the start of the 37 academic year and that of 2020, almost the national average.

I firmly believe that at the heart of this success is the quality approach which now governs our training offer, the strengthening of support systems, the commitment to informed guidance for learners (open days, immersion days for high school students, reorientation actions, etc.) and the promotion of entrepreneurship (renewal of the Pépite Réunion label). The daily investment of our teams in favor of a vibrant campus life alongside associations supports this dynamic. Together, we are fighting against precariousness, in particular through an envelope of €10k made available to the establishment's social services to support students in delicate social situations, in addition to the resources we allocate to student associations.

Internally, we are continuing the effort to structure our establishment, from internal contractualization to the quality approach, including the implementation of an ambitious real estate strategy that respects the principles of ecological transition. Always internally, and as a common thread in all our actions, the well-being of our university community is a fundamental pillar of our action. More than €60k has been invested in improving the working environment since 2021 and 346 students with disabilities were supported in 2021-2022 compared to 65 in 2012. Colleagues with disabilities are increasing in number (3,3, 2023% of our payroll in 1,4 compared to 2020% in XNUMX) and it is a source of pride to continue this path towards a more egalitarian, more inclusive establishment in which solidarity and social action are foundations.

Beyond the natural borders of our territory, we have been able to promote our know-how and skills. Highest level of internationalization ever achieved with 1056 international students of 68 nationalities enrolled last year, second “Bienvenue en France” label, leading establishment for the creation of a Franco-Indian campus in the field of health sciences. life for health, first French overseas university to enter the Shanghai ranking, international recognition of our infrastructures with the labeling of our atmospheric physics observatory by the World Meteorological Organization, 35% increase in our publications scientists… the influence of our university continues to grow.

Soon, a campus in the East. Soon, new training courses in all formats (short, continuous, online, certified, etc.). Soon, the creation of the House of Human Sciences of the Indian Ocean. Soon, a bioclimatic gymnasium in Le Tampon. Soon, new mobility destinations in the Indo-Pacific region.

In 2023, we transformed the test. The game remains to be won, for our youth, for our university community and for our territory and our regional and international environment.

Of course, many improvements remain to be made, but I can count on all of you to continue this dynamic of progress.

Rest assured, dear colleagues, dear students, dear partners, of my commitment to you and with you.

Pr Frédéric MIRANVILLE, President of the University of La Réunion
