Presentation, objective(s):
The first question addressed by this project concerns the effective integration of predictive and operational control algorithms into the system design process, a process based on optimization. Since predictive control algorithms represent a significant source of energy savings, we can then assess the impact of not considering them during the design phase. In other words, we can evaluate the benefits of a design incorporating predictive control. A second question concerns the evolution of ERMESS into an advanced design platform for energy systems that includes various energy vectors. Currently, ERMESS only considers electrical energy flows. It seems appropriate to diversify these by adding thermal energy flows (hot water and air conditioning, for example). This will allow for the modeling of systems that include advanced thermal processes, often found in industrial and commercial systems. Technically, the goal is to make ERMESS a design platform that addresses the challenges encountered in the field. To achieve this, applying the tool to diverse but representative local energy challenges will allow us to cover the widest possible range of use cases. Ultimately, this will enable energy system design professionals to develop their skills through the use of a tool developed through local R&D.
