This project falls under the FEDER action sheet FA2.1.6-B – Thermal renovation of public buildings.

Key dates:

• December 12, 2022: the ecological and environmental transition program (PROTECTEUR) was adopted by the Board of Directors; 
• July 8, 2024: The Board of Directors voted for Green Fund financing of €160,000 with a UR contribution of €57,000;
• April 29, 2025: notification of the MOE contract to UNI VERT DURABLE Sarl following the competitive dialogue; 
• June 30, 2025: delivery of the APS phase;
• September 25, 2025: start of the consultation phase;
• October 9, 2025: validation of the operation and its financing plan by the Board of Directors;
• End of October 2025: start of the APD for a period of 6 weeks;
• On December 23, 2025, the notification of the draft ERDF agreement;
• The APD will be delivered on December 24, 2025.

The ecological and environmental transition program (PROTECTEUR) of the University of Reunion Island advocates creating spaces conducive to vegetation on its campuses by transforming them. This rewilding is based on two strategies. 

• Increase the density of existing vegetation using 3 layers
• Demineralize

The challenge here is to create coherent, interconnected, improved, and enhanced spaces to improve the quality of life on campus and offer students an attractive and supportive environment conducive to their development. The richness of the soil and biodiversity provide the foundation for building a sustainable and ecologically sound new dynamic of living together between people and their environment. This transformation aims to meet the demands of the transitions that will prepare us for the challenges of tomorrow.

Ultimately, the restoration project will:

• To provide thermal comfort to users and increase biodiversity.
• To structure and sustain an action to combat EEE.
• Create islands of coolness, increase the permeable part of surfaces for living soil and surface hydraulic management.
• To give a strong, consistent and committed image of the Campus.
• To promote soft mobility and offer comfort in travel.
• To provide spatial understanding and improved fluidity of movement.
• To enable users to facilitate and optimize their journeys so that they are inclusive (PMR, fire department access, etc.).
• To perpetuate expertise and teams of gardeners with practices that adhere to the rules of the art.
• Creating living and working spaces for everyone.

Regarding the financial aspect of the operation, the estimated cost is €5,851,622 including VAT (i.e., €5,393,200 excluding VAT).
