Cyclone alert: continued closure of the University of Reunion until further notice

Message from the First Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors

Dear colleagues,

First of all, allow me to wish you all the best for the upcoming year 2024.

As you know, moderate tropical storm BELAL, which is currently 550 km north of Reunion Island, is gradually moving towards our region. There is a possibility that it will evolve into a tropical cyclone, or even an intense tropical cyclone, in the coming hours.

Mr. Prefect triggered the orange level “I am preparing” of the ORSEC Cyclones system from 19:00 p.m. this Saturday, approximately 24 hours before his passage closest to our coasts, between the end of the night from Sunday to Monday and Monday evening .

For the rare activities which were to resume on Monday and as a precautionary measure to guarantee the safety of all members of the university community, I have decided to maintain the closure of the establishment this Monday, January 15 and until further notice. order.

This closure concerns all of our sites, campuses, components and departments.

All educational activities, including lectures, tutorials, practical work, as well as tests and exams, whether in person or remotely, are suspended during this period. The administrative activities of the University of Reunion, on all sites, are also interrupted.

Thank you for exercising the utmost caution and following the safety instructions of the competent authorities. My priority is to ensure everyone’s safety in the face of this hurricane episode.

We will keep you informed of developments in the situation and ask you to remain attentive to official communications from the University and local authorities who will provide a new update on the situation after the passage of the meteor.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Sincerely,
