Although the situation has improved since the 2005 law, much remains to be done for people with disabilities, particularly in terms of accessibility and compensation.
Although the situation has improved since the 2005 law, much remains to be done for people with disabilities, particularly in terms of accessibility and compensation.
Indeed, despite progress, accessibility still lags behind in transport, cultural, sports and digital infrastructures, which continues to restrict the autonomy of people with disabilities. It is important to move towards universal accessibility allowing everyone access to everything.
The right to compensation, which can take the form of financial, human, technical or material assistance, etc., helps to restore equality between people, including in the workplace. It is therefore essential to guarantee the effectiveness of this right.
Concerning the professional integration of people with disabilities, despite improvements, the unemployment rate of disabled workers remains twice as high. The Obligation to Employ Disabled Workers (OETH) remains a priority to strengthen the integration and retention of people with disabilities in employment.
Furthermore, although a positive change in mentalities can be observed on the issue of disability, the fact remains that the Defender of Rights still identifies disability as the primary cause of discrimination.
The 2005 law advocates the participation of all in society. To achieve this, society as a whole must continue to change course, leaving prejudices aside and building the inclusion of all.
