On October 28, 2024, the Regional Ethical Reflection Space of Reunion was officially created. Its purpose is to be open not only to all health and social professionals, in establishments or at home, and to include representatives of health and medico-social users, but also to be open to institutions concerned by an ethical approach, and to the entire population.

The signatory Members are in accordance with Article L. 1412-6 of the Public Health Code:

– The Federation of French Hospitals of the Indian Ocean (FHF-OI), represented by its
President ;
– The Federation of Private Solidarity Hospital and Personal Assistance Establishments (FEHAP), represented by its regional delegate;
– The Federation of Private Hospitalization, represented by its regional delegate;
– France Assos Réunion, represented by its president;
– The University of Réunion represented by its president or representative;

To this end, an Orientation Council must be formed: This is made up of two colleges, the first of which is made up of qualified individuals from the healthcare or medical research sector, involved at the regional or interregional level.

The second college is composed of qualified persons not belonging to the previous sector, appointed because of their competence and their interest in ethical questions relating to the field of competence of the ethical reflection space.

The role of the Steering Committee is to propose general policy and specific guidelines to be implemented, themes for reflection to be developed, and activities to be undertaken each year. It meets at least four times a year.

The members of the steering committee, as well as the persons invited to participate in the committee's discussions, are not remunerated. However, members and invited persons are reimbursed for the transport and accommodation expenses they may incur during trips made as part of their mission in accordance with the terms set out in the constitutive agreement and, for public officials, under the conditions set out in Decree No. 2006-781 of 3 July 2006 applicable to civil servants of the State.

The term of office of qualified persons who are members of the steering committee is three years, renewable once.
