Faced with the intensification of the chikungunya epidemic in Réunion, the University of Réunion, in partnership with the Regional Health Agency (ARS), is launching an initiative aimed at recruiting student volunteers to become prevention relays on all its campuses.

University commitment to prevention

Aware of its role in the fight against this epidemic, the University of Réunion Island wishes to mobilize its student community to strengthen prevention efforts. Student volunteers will be trained in collaboration with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) to raise awareness among their peers about protective measures against chikungunya, such as eliminating breeding sites and adopting protective behaviors.

Become a “Chikungunya Prevention Relay”

Students interested in this prevention relay role are invited to register online with the Student Health Service. Their objectives?

  • Spread the right reflexes to avoid transmission
  • Inform their classmates about the symptoms and what to do
  • Help circulate prevention tools in an accessible manner

To help them carry out this essential mission for public health, specific training will be provided to them by the ARS.

Collective mobilization is important. By becoming prevention relays, students will actively contribute to protecting the university community and those around them. As the ARS emphasizes, "the mobilization of all stakeholders and the population is necessary to prevent a large-scale chikungunya epidemic in Réunion."

The poster is divided into two illustrated columns: On the left: pictograms illustrate actions to avoid mosquito bites (applying repellent, wearing long clothing, mosquito nets, diffusers). On the right: drawings show how to eliminate breeding sites (emptying water containers, covering tires, using tarpaulins, cleaning gutters, not storing stagnant water). At the bottom of the poster are the official logos of the ARS and the Prefecture of La Réunion, a toll-free number for advice (0 800 110 000), and a QR code pointing to the ARS website.
