Back-to-school ceremony, graduation ceremony and concert at the Confucius Institute of Reunion Island

The Confucius Institute of Reunion Island (ICR) organized its back-to-school ceremony this Friday, September 15, 2023 on the Moufia campus.

The event brought together new and old students of the ICR, in the presence of Mr. Wang Xiangyang, Consul General of China in Reunion and Mrs. Anne-Françoise Zattara-Gros, provisional administrator of the Confucius Institute and vice-president of the University of Reunion in charge of European, International and Regional Cooperation relations. Also present were: Ms. Éricka Bareigts – Mayor of Saint-Denis, Ms. Viviane Payet Ben Hamida – departmental advisor, Ms. Régine Chane Hong regional advisor, and Mr. Daniel Thiaw Wing Kai, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Reunion.

The evening was an opportunity to present the teaching team of the ICR 2023/2024, to congratulate the graduates of the evening courses in DU in Chinese language and civilization, to discuss the first graduating class from the bachelor's course in applied languages ​​English and Chinese from the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the University which was launched in 2020 in collaboration with the ICR.

The ICR at the University of La Réunion still relies for its development on the support of two key partners: the Chinese Foundation for International Education and the South China Normal University. ICR mobility scholarship programs to study Chinese in China are resuming this year.

  • Apart from Chinese language teaching within the training courses of different components of the University, the ICR offers evening courses on 6 levels for which it is always possible to register on the Moufia campus or on the bioclimatic campus of Holy Land.

Big news this year: courses for the oral practice of Chinese are open for registration on the Moufia and Terre Sainte campuses.

Cultural activities planned

Among the cultural activities to follow soon, were mentioned:

  • the two concerts “Six-string tales and legends” with professional erhu and pipa players on the theme “animals and fantastic bestiary” at the University and at MADOI
  • International University Week with workshops and demonstrations open to all (Chinese knots, painting, martial arts, erhu) on October 11 on the Moufia and Terre Sainte campuses. A presentation of scholarships to go to China, as well as an online exchange between Chinese students from the University of Reunion and the University of Szeged in Hungary is planned
  • participation in the Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 29/10/2023 city of the Port

A photo with the officials was taken to celebrate the success of the students enrolled in the ICR diploma course for the year 2022-23, and the success of the first promotion of the English-Chinese LEA launched in cooperation with the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences.
