TRANSition and Energy Audit in MadaGAscar (TRANGA)

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2025, the University of La Réunion highlights the careers of women involved in the scientific field.

As part of the TRANGA project (TRansition and Energy Audit in Madagascar), led by the University of South Brittany in partnership with the Higher Institute of Technology of Antananarivo (IS-T) and the University of La Réunion, two interviews were conducted with the help of the Audiovisual, Multimedia and Digital Accessibility Department of the University of La Réunion (DAMAN).

Ms. Lemaire and Ms. Payet share their careers and their views on the place of women in science and engineering. Through these portraits, we discover women who, thanks to their scientific expertise and their spirit of innovation, actively contribute to the evolution of their field. They embody inspiring role models for younger generations wishing to get involved in scientific and technological fields.

Ms. Sylvie Le Maire – Committing to a scientific and strategic sector

General Delegate of the Sugar Syndicate, Sylvie Le Maire is a key player in the development of the sugar cane sector. This sector, at the crossroads of agriculture, chemistry and industrial engineering, is based on cutting-edge scientific expertise. Her commitment illustrates the importance of science in the transformation and enhancement of natural resources. Through her career, she shows that women have their place in the scientific and industrial sectors, where they can combine technical skills and strategic vision to innovate and perpetuate sectors that are essential to the local economy.

Ms. Marie-Jo Payet – Innovating through science for a sustainable future

An expert in industrial ecology and founder of Utopio, Marie-Jo Payet embodies scientific entrepreneurship in the service of ecological transition. At the head of innovative projects such as the BioBeeBox Lab, which recovers biowaste as valuable resources (biogas, water, compost), she demonstrates that science and technology can be levers of transformation for a more sustainable world. Her career is an inspiration for young girls who want to undertake in scientific fields and combine innovation, environmental impact and entrepreneurial success.
