Launch of the TRANGA project at the University of Reunion

The “Capacity building for Energy Transition and Audit in MadaGAscar” (TRANGA) project led by the University of Bretagne Sud in partnership with the Higher Institute of Technology of Antananarivo and the University of La Réunion, is one of the 8 winning projects from the second edition of the “Partnerships with African Higher Education” (PEA) program.

The PEA “Partnerships with African Higher Education” program

In November 2017, the President of the Republic set a course at the University of Ouagadougou in front of nearly 800 African students: building a partnership relationship between France and the African continent. In particular, he calls for “work to double the academic partnerships we have with Africa »

During his speech on February 27, 2023 at the Élysée, he invited us to go further in this partnership relationship through concrete projects: “(…) where our partners expect us (…) by building an increased offer in terms of professional training ". A major challenge for the African continent where 60% of the population is under 24 years old and where the number of students must double by 2030 to reach 22 million.

Funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) as part of the “Welcome to France” strategy supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and their operators ANR and Campus France, the PEA program aims to finance ambitious university partnerships in priority sectors for the development of the 18 eligible African countries.

The first edition, launched in March 2020, was a great success with nearly sixty applications and seven winning projects. The second call for projects attracted the interest of more than 70 higher education establishments, African and French, who presented more than thirty applications.

An ambitious project

The field of energy constitutes an essential pillar of the development of Madagascar, which began its energy transition with the integration of renewable energy sources.

The TRANGA project, coordinated by the Université Bretagne Sud in partnership with the Institut Supérieur de Technologie d'Antananarivo and the University of La Réunion, aims to strengthen the university offering (bachelor's and master's level training) in this area, by focusing on auditing and energy efficiency, primarily in two sectors of activity: industry and housing. It seeks to strengthen the job-training match, in particular by adapting the training offer to the challenges/needs of employers and by ensuring that new graduates can be more versatile.

Furthermore, the TRANGA project also covers the field of research, continuing training as well as technology transfer and innovation. One ambition of the project is, in fact, the development of a technical platform on the IST-T site; open to businesses, it will allow experimentation and technological innovation which is essential to them. For the partner companies, the main added value of the project lies in the increase in their capacity to develop and follow, or even initiate, technological developments linked to the energy transition as well as availability, on the Malagasy territory. , graduates with the same skills as those from European universities.

Launch of the project at the University of Reunion

It is within the framework of the eighth International week organized by the University of Reunion Island which included the launch event of the TANGA project which took place from October 09 to 11. On this occasion, representatives of the consortium member establishments formalized the partnership by signing an agreement in the presence of officials, financiers and partners external to the project. Three days of fruitful collaboration made up of project meetings and meetings with key stakeholders (institutional, educational and research) on the issues of energy transition in Reunion Island. Furthermore, with the presence of a representative of the National Research Agency during this launch, the members of the consortium had the opportunity to consolidate their action plan, thus ensuring an efficient project start.
