Launch of the “Marion Dufresne” project

The University of Réunion is proud to announce the launch of the "Marion Dufresne – On dit cap" project, an expedition aboard the iconic vessel of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. From March 31 to April 30, this mission will offer eight students with disabilities from the University of Réunion, accompanied by two teacher-research supervisors, the unique opportunity to explore the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF) in the Crozet and Kerguelen districts.

The event's name, "On dit cap," carries a triple meaning. It plays on the word "handicap," while affirming the ability to meet challenges, regardless of constraints. Finally, it echoes the course set for the French Southern and Antarctic Territories, thus incorporating maritime language.

A unique experience for our students

This project offers our 8 students with disabilities, accompanied by two supervisors from the University, the rare opportunity to put into practice their multidisciplinary skills (computer science, sports, auditing, history, life sciences, etc.) in an exceptional environment. The production of immersive recordings will highlight the challenges and beauties linked to disability, student training and the richness of the TAAF.

A commitment to excellence and inclusion

Since 1982, our institution has established itself as a pioneer in the Indian Ocean, now bringing together nearly 18500 students and 1400 dedicated staff. This project embodies our commitment to promoting equal opportunity and strengthening inclusivity, affirming that "where there is a will, there is a way."

A committed partnership

The success of this initiative relies heavily on the support of our partners, whom we thank. The project would not have been possible without the commitment of TAAF, Crédit Agricole, MAIF, the Maif Education Fund, and Banque des Territoires—essential partners who share our vision of an inclusive and innovative future.

We invite you to follow this maritime odyssey closely and celebrate with us an initiative that pushes back limiting thoughts.
