Presentation, objective(s):

The CAFEDIV Project aims to study the genetic, biochemical and functional diversity of the brown coffee tree (Coffea mauritiana Lam.) endemic to Reunion Island, in order to elucidate its adaptation to very contrasting ecological conditions and to enable the economic valorization of metabolites of interest pharmaceutical and cosmetological it contains. In order to achieve these objectives, the Cafediv project brings together partners with strong and complementary expertise: genomics (IRD, UMR DIADE), chemistry (CYROI, BIO'R Unit) and physiology (Université de la Réunion, PVBMT). The project will be carried out within two technological platforms in Reunion, 3P and CYROI, thus strengthening their research capacities. Furthermore, this project relies on the Biological Resources Center representative of the biodiversity of the Coffea genus (CRB Caféiers). This collection, of worldwide interest, has been installed for 10 years in Reunion (Bassin Martin), thanks to the financial support received from the Region and the EU as part of the revitalization of the coffee sector based on the 'Bourbon' variety. sharp'. This collection, including different accessions of the Coffea mauritiana species and species native to Mayotte and Mauritius, is an essential element for research activities focused on the study of biodiversity.
