From November 20 to 24, 2023, the Indian Oceanic University Presses (PUI) of the University of Reunion organized a working seminar on university presses in overseas zones bringing together the PUA (Presses Universitaires des Antilles) — accompanied by a delegation from the University of the West Indies, including its president, its first VPCA, its chief of staff and its DAF -, the PUNC (New Caledonia University Presses), the PUI (Indianoceanic University Presses), and representatives of the University of Guyana and of the MINEA laboratory as part of the foreshadowing of the University Presses of the Guiana Plateau called to bring together Guyana, Guyana, Surinam and Brazil. This working seminar was organized at the instigation of the PUI and the Open Science mission of the SCD with the support of the UFR LSH and the DRIVE of the University of Reunion. It was funded as part of a strategic management dialogue granted by the Ministry as part of research and innovation projects.

It was the first national event of its kind. It inaugurated a cycle of meetings intended to recur and allowed the creation of a network: Trans’O.

This seminar aimed to share experiences and editorial strategies within scientific publications from overseas areas. The University Presses indeed have a decisive role to play in the valorization of scientific data and the influence of overseas Universities. Furthermore, fully in line with the priorities set by the government, the University Presses aim for a reasoned policy of open science. This seminar, thanks to various remote interventions by professionals in the chain of production, structuring and quality of scientific editions, made it possible to shed light on the means of access of University Presses to distribution and distribution platforms. national and international promotion. He also highlighted the role of journals in the open access dissemination of research results, as well as the opportunities they offer for increased partnerships between universities. In addition to the exchanges of experiences and the sharing of tools that the seminar enabled, it led to the creation of a TransOceanic Knowledge Sharing Network called Trans’O. This network aims to pool information around our respective scientific events, share certain resources, and exchanges between scientific committees of partner universities. This network will be part, in its own dimensions, specificities and objectives, within the framework of the National Alliance of Scientific Publishers currently being established by the MESRI. He will be able to play a decisive supporting role in the constitution of the MSHOI.
