European Researchers’ Night

Friday September 29, the 6th edition of the European Researchers' Night was held at the State Garden, the Natural History Museum and the Léon Dierx Museum.

These departmental infrastructures welcomed 67 researchers from all disciplines: biology, economics, physics, arts, etc., all keen to share their work.

In addition to researchers from the university's laboratories, CIRAD, ESA and the Water Office took part in this evening. Nearly 2 visitors were able to (re)discover Reunion research in the cultural highlights of Saint-Denis through 000 devices.

The theme, Our Futures, and its scenography allowed visitors to be immersed in a time capsule and imagine the future of research.

Installed on a deckchair in a forest, in a metal spaceship or under the tent of a fortune teller, visitors were able to discover the multiple facets of Reunion science. Thus, around tarot cards, their working tools, fun games and surveys, broadcasts of podcasts or slides and walks in the city our researchers interacted with the participating audiences.

This 2023 edition marked the return of the great participatory experiment, the objective of which is to involve as many people as possible in a scientific experiment, thus allowing them to discover the research being done. This activity, proposed by INSA Toulouse and relayed in 16 cities in France, aimed to measure the quality of fresh water at a specific moment. Nearly 500 measuring kits consisting of a strip measuring around fifteen parameters such as chlorine, nitrates or pH and its reading grid, were distributed during this evening. We hope that 15 people across France will have taken a sample during the weekend following the event, to take a snapshot of the quality of fresh water. .

The European Researchers' Night is supported by the European Commission as part of the HORIZON Europe – Action Marie Curie Sklodowska program. It is implemented in France by a consortium of 16 establishments. In Reunion, it is organized by the University of Reunion, in partnership with the Department of Reunion
