Towards a campus of the University of La Réunion in Saint-André: visit to the campuses managed by CY University

A Reunion delegation made up of the Saint-André town hall services, led by its Mayor Joe Bédier and Mr. MIRANVILLE, President of the University of La Réunion, was welcomed by the President of CY Cergy Paris Université, Mr. Laurent GATINEAU for a visit to the sites managed by CY campus.

This initiative echoes the partnership signed on October 4, 2022 establishing the creation of a campus in the heart of the town of Saint-André, on a 10-hectare plot within the Colosse park.

Our establishment is spread over seven main sites, which occupy more than 30 hectares of land. Since its creation in 1982, it has experienced strong and continuous growth. The Reunion region is also facing several major transitions – demographic, social, energy and
ecological – our establishment must therefore meet strong expectations and challenges, both from its users and its institutional partners and the socio-economic world. With this in mind, we wish to develop an establishment strategy according to four major axes:

  • Axis 1: Develop a training offer promoting the success of all audiences hosted by the University of Reunion and adapted to its territory;
  • Axis 2: Consolidate scientific centers of excellence around the science of sustainability (environmental sciences and health research in conjunction with human and social sciences);
  • Axis 3: Strengthen the strategic positioning of the University of Reunion in its regional and extra-regional environment;
  • Axis 4: Strengthen the management functions put at the service of the strategy and initiate a new expansion cycle.

These orientations were contractualized on November 19, 2021, between the University of Reunion and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation through a Five-year Contract spanning the period 2020-2025.

This project is part of all the economic and infrastructure projects carried out by the municipal community of Saint-André. The University will tomorrow make it possible to train all young people in the micro-region and will stimulate development and economic activity.

This new local campus will contribute to the territorial rebalancing in this micro-region which is currently experiencing multiple structural delays. This large-scale project is part of the logic of the development of the Eastern basin and the establishment contract signed between the University of Reunion and the Ministry of Higher Education (2021-2025) confirms the desire to create this structuring infrastructure for the territory.

“With this in mind, the visit to the sites managed by CY Paris Universités allowed us to observe what is best in terms of integrating a university into its environment, both local, territorial and regional. This gave us great ideas to follow for the establishment of the future campus of the University of La Réunion in Saint-André, which we hope to be at the cutting edge in terms of sustainable development and work and study space. high quality ! »

Frédéric MIRANVILLE, President of the University of La Réunion

A visit which will allow us to better understand the contribution, both economic, sociological but also ecological, of the establishment of a campus for the Eastern basin, the majority of whose inhabitants travel to reach their places of study or work.
