113 students from the IUT of Reunion Island on study trips to Canada, an unprecedented mobilization, never seen before!

For its 4th edition, the study trip abroad of the IUT of Reunion reaches an unprecedented level: 113 students from five different departments are flying to Canada as part of an international study trip.

The following departments are represented: Business and Administration Management (GEA), Marketing Techniques (TC), Civil Engineering – Sustainable Construction (GC-CD), as well as, for the first time, Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Biological Engineering (GB).

Never before had a study abroad project brought together such a large number of students and such a diversity of courses within the IUT of Reunion Island.

This trip is fully aligned with the internationalization strategy of the IUT and the University of Reunion Island. The program includes (among other things): visits to prestigious institutions such as HEC Montréal, the University of Quebec at Montreal, McGill University, and Cégep de Sherbrooke; visits to major companies like Colas Québec; a tour of a hydroelectric dam; meetings with Canadian teachers and students; and exchanges with Reunion Islanders living abroad.

This experience aims to broaden students' perspectives and make them aware that their professional future can extend far beyond the borders of Reunion Island and mainland France.
To illustrate the expatriation opportunities for people from Reunion around the world, students will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Grégory LARROQUE, originally from Saint-Pierre, vice-president at CGI, a global information technology consulting company based in Canada.

For the HSE and GB departments, which are participating in this initiative for the first time, this international opening marks an important step in the development of their network and in the promotion of their training programs.

Testimonials

“This trip exposes students to different management styles, higher education approaches, and ways of life. Each time, they return enriched and more ambitious.” Jean Paul MAUJEAN, lecturer in the Business and Administration Management program and initiator of the project

Thanks

This large-scale project was made possible thanks to the combined efforts of students, teaching staff, and committed partners. In addition to the contributions of the IUT and the students, several organizations provided crucial support for this initiative. French bee and Air France offered preferential rates for air travel, while the Tipopei brand helped fund the trip through the sale of jams by the students.

CIVIS also provided valuable financial support for this project. Special thanks are extended to GTOI, a key partner of the GC-CD and HSE departments, for their support throughout this project.

Beyond academic discovery, this stay in Canada constitutes an intense human experience, strengthening cohesion between students from different disciplines and promoting interdisciplinary exchanges.
