Fac des Sciences en Transition is a 100% student initiative born in 2020, at the beginning of the Covid years, and supported since its inception by the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies.
One of its first actions was the creation over the period 2020-2022, in front of the faculty forecourt, of innovative planters made from recycled pallet wood, before making way over the period 2023-2025 for green areas demarcated by cut bamboo stems within the Moufia Campus, behind the S1 building.
In both cases, these initiatives were confronted with accelerated degradation in tropical climates, hence this new initiative in 2025 from the Faculty of Sciences in Transition to evolve towards a more sustainable solution; what could be more relevant than solid basalt blocks to make the transition to a Sustainable Campus!
It took two consecutive Saturdays of intense work, April 5 and 12, 2025, for Ali Ahamada NAOUFALE (L1ST), Angie CLAIN (L2ST), Killian MUSSARD (M2 Univ. Grenoble), Lucas PRAINT (L2SV), Shalini CATAPOULE (L2ST), Thibault THIERRY (L2ST), accompanied by Anthony FINIZOLA (Lecturer at the Laboratoire GéoSciences Réunion, Faculty of Sciences in Transition representative and SD CSR Vegetation and Biodiversity representative) and Alain MUSSARD (parent), with the occasional collaboration of a few L1ST students, to successfully complete this sustainable makeover of the forecourt of the UFR Sciences and Technologies, without forgetting the final plant touch!
A big thank you to all the participants for working effectively to beautify the University of Reunion!
