From June 10 to 12, 2025, the IUT de La Réunion team brilliantly represented La Réunion during the 9th edition of the Sustainable Construction Challenge, an essential national competition in the field of Civil Engineering.

This challenge, initiated in 2010 in Nancy, brings together civil engineering students from IUTs (university institutes of technology) across France every year. After stopping in Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Belfort, La Rochelle, Saint-Nazaire, and Grenoble, the IUT of Nîmes hosted this new post-Covid edition, the first since the BUT was established.

The IUT of La Réunion has been a regular participant in this event since its inception. This year again, our students stood out from among 29 teams from across France.

Our team, composed of: Anaïs Bigot, Carla Razafindrakoto and Lilian Laplanche (all in BUT3 Design Offices course), competed on the subject of the building course.

The first day of the challenge began with a surprise challenge and a project showcase forum. Teams were evaluated on several deliverables:

• a presentation poster
• a 5-minute oral presentation
• a technical report of around ten pages

At the end of this first day, the Saint-Pierre team was selected for the final, being one of the three best teams in their category, a very nice recognition, facing projects all of an excellent level.

Despite a remarkable performance, it was the IUT of La Rochelle which won this 2025 edition.

Beyond the competition, this challenge was also an opportunity for our students to participate in practical workshops on sustainable construction techniques, such as the construction of straw and earth walls, as well as to share enriching moments with students from IUTs in mainland France.
