Training summary
Today, transport networks are more complex, constructions more daring, materials more varied, but the mission remains the same: to provide society with the buildings and equipment it needs, while working towards sustainable construction, with respect for future generations.
The environmental issues Sustainable construction principles are now mandatory for all stakeholders in the construction sector, and they apply to all types of buildings. Each building must be designed to ensure the comfort and health of its users, minimize its environmental impact, and integrate as respectfully as possible into its surroundings by making optimal use of local and natural resources. Beyond the normal aging of existing buildings, and in addition to the growing unmet needs for housing and infrastructure, the new imperatives linked to the challenges of sustainable development will translate into an increased demand for skilled labor in the construction industry.
The construction industry is undergoing a digital revolution with the widespread adoption of the approach BIM (Building Information Modeling – Building Information Modeling)This collaborative working method consists of compiling, in a structured and ordered manner, within a computer model, information relating to a construction project, thus serving to simulate its physical and functional characteristics in order to optimize design, costs, methods and maintenance.
Finally the issue of health and safety The well-being of men and women at work is of paramount importance in the Building and Public Works sector, particularly for personnel on construction sites.
Le Bachelor The University of Technology (BUT) Civil Engineering – Sustainable Construction aims to train middle managers with strong technological skills in the field of construction over six semesters.
Educational objectives and training opportunities
Educational goals :
The University Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering – Sustainable Construction Building Works route This certification covers sectors related to Building and Public Works (BTP). Its objective is to certify senior technicians with strong technological skills, but also familiar with the non-technological aspects of the profession, such as project management. They are intended to work interchangeably at the project owner level (work scheduling), the project management level (design offices), or the construction level (construction companies). Their skills cover all construction techniques, from foundations and structures to technical equipment, from building stability to thermal, acoustic, and visual comfort, from material selection to the definition of construction techniques, from earthworks to road construction and civil engineering structures.
Training opportunities:
The University Institute of Technology (IUT) focuses on developing educational programs that promote the success of all students at the University of Reunion Island and are tailored to its local context. The department, through its close ties with industry and its commitment to providing individualized student support, fulfills these objectives. Since the IUT's inception, student success and career placement associated with this program have seen consistent growth. Thanks to a substantial number of internships (26 weeks) and a work-study program implemented in the third year, students adapt quickly to and meet the industry's demand for middle managers. The program also offers international opportunities: students can complete their third year at the École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) in Montreal. An exchange semester program is currently being developed with the Haute École de Province de Liège (HEPL). The program incorporates a significant proportion of external professionals from the field into its teaching staff, who inform the teaching team about industry trends and allow the curriculum to be tailored to professional needs. Students participate in events organized by professionals throughout the three years to enhance their practical experience.
As part of the ÉCOUBAT project (ÉCOUBAT), we will develop our bridging program and access for vocational baccalaureate holders to our higher education program.

Course Description
The BUT (Bachelor of Technology) program comprises 1800 hours of instruction spread over three years and organized into lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions. This is supplemented by 300 hours of Learning and Assessment Situations (SAé) and three internships. The first internship, known as the "work placement," lasts four weeks and takes place midway through the first year, between the first and second semesters. The second internship, lasting seven weeks, takes place at the end of the second year, and the third-year internship lasts ten weeks. Internships can be completed in Réunion, mainland France, or abroad.
