Description of the WEU

From the global vision to the local scale, this UEO offers students a space for discovery, reflection and exchange to decipher and understand the ecological challenges of our food systems and understand how food impacts human health.
Designed as an active learning pathway, the UEO takes place by alternating between classroom and field work: sensory awakening, a visit to a local and bulk goods association shop, discovery of the campus composting platform, gardening workshop…
This course enables students to acquire knowledge and develop guided reflection on the causes and consequences of our food practices, from farm to fork and to the bin, in order to become conscious consumers capable of:
• identify the impacts of food systems on the environment
• understand the specific issue of food waste
• to adopt current nutritional recommendations
• address them in a practical, everyday way: meal planning, shopping…
• Identify virtuous behavioral changes: organic, fresh, local, bulk, short supply chain, direct sales, more plant-based diet, fight against junk food…
