Description of the WEU

Cinema develops a number of themes that are likely to make society bounce back and comment on it. The theme of science fiction allows us to see how the history of cinema has anticipated our society, its past and its future. Through its specific language, cinema has propelled a number of technological and societal fantasies, which have finally taken place or are perhaps in the process of becoming. From Méliès' A Trip to the Moon to Star Wars, via Forbidden Planet (the film that gave rise to Star Trek and therefore the mobile phone) and 2001: A Space Odyssey, this course will cover a whole scientific conception of the history of cinema.
