Description of the WEU
From popular entertainment originating in traveling fairs to a fully-fledged art form, cinema has constantly evolved. Throughout its history, it has staged and manipulated the paradoxes of humanity, exploring the tensions between tradition and modernity, freedom and control, reality and fiction, while seeking to reflect, question, or defend the (often contradictory) values of different eras and societies. Cinema thus laid the foundations for the rules of the moving image that dominate our current society.
