Description of the WEU
Xieyi painting is one of the major styles of traditional Chinese painting.
The 写意 Xieyi style: Xie = to write, to transcribe, Yi = the idea, the intention, In a few brush strokes, a master represents the beauty, the immensity, the tranquility or the energy of a landscape, or its anchoring in the present with a focus on a bucolic moment. We are more in the suggestion, close to abstraction, because we play between the empty and the full, the line must be both definitive and precise while leaving enough space for the imagination of the spectator so that it completes the initial intention.
Those who have already practiced calligraphy will have an advantage, but this is not a prerequisite. Participants will be able to give free rein to their intuition, while being made aware of what makes the aesthetic of a Xieyi painting: it is both a relationship with nature, and a search for an inner vibration that must be expressed. The workshop will culminate in the creation of a personal painting with poetic connotations.
