Description of the WEU
The general objective of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of the history of the People's Republic of China from 1978 to the present. The course is divided into two parts:
1. Time for reforms
2. The time of prosperity:
1. Time for reforms
- The era of Deng Xiaoping and the end of the Maoist period.
- Structural reform and the new development of agriculture.
- Opening up to international trade.
- The shift in foreign policy.
- Economic reforms and societal fractures.
2. The time of prosperity:
- The Chinese path of “socialist market economy”.
- The dizzying growth of the 2000s.
- A new foreign policy.
- Urbanization and the evolution of society.
- Xi Jinping, the “middle-income society” and the “Chinese dream”
