Description of the WEU

The objective of this course is to allow students intending to teach French to foreign learners to know the main principles linked to the pronunciation of French.

This course is intended for students who already have a foundation in French phonology: knowledge of vowel and consonant phonemes, principles of accentuation and organization of utterances into rhythmic groups, mastery of the API (International Phonetic Alphabet).

We propose here an in-depth study which will focus on:

  • Some orthoepic principles linked to the pronunciation of French (prosody, liaison, assimilation phenomena, e caduc);
