Description of the WEU

Pass the rescue test described by circular No. 2019-100 of 01/07/2019.

The contents are exclusively linked to the practice of rescue:

-Diving techniques and approaching a drowning person.

-Techniques for overcoming an obstacle while immersed

- Mastery of apnea and duck diving.

-Towing techniques.

Evaluation: 100-meter course to be completed continuously, without regaining support at the edge of the pool, in a time of less than 3 minutes and 45 seconds:
From the edge of the pool, enter the water by diving; move a distance of 25 metres in freestyle on the surface; then move a distance of 25 metres including 7,50 metres in complete immersion on a defined path from the 5-metre mark (flags) to 12,50 metres (marked at the bottom of the pool); then move a distance of 25 metres including 7,50 metres in complete immersion on a defined path from the middle of the pool (12,50 metres) to the 5-metre mark (flags); then move and submerge to look for a mannequin lying 2,50 metres from the edge on the T marked at the bottom of the pool; then bring the mannequin up to the surface and tow it the entire 25 metres, with the mannequin's back pointing towards the lifeguard's chest.
The dummy must be of the adult-sized standard model and must be submerged between 1,80 metres and 3 metres deep. Its waiting position at the bottom of the water is irrelevant. When towing, the dummy must have its airways clear at all times; for this, the face (the dummy's face) must be above the water level. At each turn, the candidate must touch the vertical wall of the pool or a marked marker; it is forbidden to hang on. The test is performed without taking support either at the bottom or at the edge of the pool for the entire course. However, it is permitted to take support at the bottom when grabbing and lifting the dummy. The test must be performed in a swimsuit. Wearing a wetsuit, swimming goggles, mask, nose clip or any other equipment is not permitted.

The test is not validated if:

the candidate does not perform a diving start;

the candidate regains support on the ground or on the line during the swimming part or if he holds on to the wall during the turn (he can only touch the vertical wall of the pool);

the candidate touches the ground during the apnea journey;

the candidate emerges before the two 7,50 meters in apnea;

the mannequin is transported momentarily or continuously with the airways facing the bottom (mannequin upside down);

the back of the mannequin is not oriented towards the rescuer's torso;

the manikin's airway passes momentarily below the surface of the water. Splashes or waves generated by the movement are only disqualifying if the airway is below the surface of the water;

the candidate does not touch the wall upon arrival or if he loses control of the mannequin when approaching the wall (for example, he lets go of the mannequin and touches the wall simultaneously).
