Description of the WEU
This UEO offers an approach to Chinese culture and civilization in the light of one of its oldest treasures: calligraphy. Calligraphy is one of the major Chinese arts. It is a living link of Chinese writing with its very distant origins, its evolution allows us to understand the values which shaped this art of brush strokes practiced by the greatest emperors but also by scholars and administrators, because it was one of the compulsory themes for competitive examinations for state civil servants. It is an art in which the master's brush is the seismograph of the artist's inner state, and in which the practitioners are in a parenthesis of research for aesthetics, balance and spirituality.
