In our language centre

The “Maison des Langues” Language Centre offers international students courses to improve their French language skills throughout the academic year. This two to four-hour weekly course is designed to support students in their academic reading and writing, listening and speaking skills while studying for their degree at the University of Reunion Island.

This course is credit-bearing : 4 ECTS.

The aim is to help students: 

  • master communication skills in authentic situations
  • consolidate and deepen grammatical notions
  • acquire vocabulary
  • improve pronunciation and intonation
  • acquire or improve academic work methods

Choose credit-bearing modules in French

French for Academic Writing (Techniques d’Expression)

Students may wish to choose modules in “Expression techniques” where they will learn to think and write successfully in accurate and appropriate academic French and develop their language skills in several key areas, such as writing for essays and dissertations.

Lettres modernes

Students wishing to engage in thorough studies of French language and literature can choose modules in “Lettres modernes”.

Open courses

Open courses (often online) are also available to international students to help improve their level in French (ex : Le Français Plus que Parfait)

Learn Creole

The Creole course focuses on spoken Reunionese creole as a foreign language. This course for beginners will be above all centred on aural comprehension, an essential language skill for a better understanding of Reunionese society. Working on different themes (e.g. human relations, meals, identity, humour…), the course will approach various speech acts which will allow us to understand conversations of everyday life.

Other languages

The “Maison des Langues” Language Center also offers an introduction to Arabic, Korean, German, Hindi, Japanese, Malagasy, Spanish, Swahili and Tamil. Students can also sit for international language certifications such as the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), CLES (Le Certificat de Compétences en Langues de l’Enseignement Supérieur), DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française).
