Training summary

The Life Sciences degree is training in the field of natural and life sciences. This is a training course based on theoretical and practical lessons in the form of Lectures (CM), Directed Work (TD) and Practical Work (TP), including field trips. It offers progressive specialization for students, to better prepare for the rest of their university course (Master's degree) or to enter the world of work, by offering 4 specialties:

  • Molecular, Cellular, and Organismic Biology (BMCO)

  • Biology of Organisms, Populations and Ecosystems (BOPE)

  • Teaching professions

  • Scientific Mediation.

Training aims

The Life Sciences degree aims to train students in knowledge and skills in the entire field of life sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, physiology, classification of living organisms). , developmental biology, evolution, ecology, ecosystems), and in associated disciplines, allowing the understanding of contemporary problems linked to biology (health issues, sustainable development, bioethics, etc.).

This training is based on a set of disciplines, the major discipline of which is biology and on a base of several disciplines (chemistry, geosciences, mathematics, physics) which, through their interconnections, allow the understanding of living things and their functioning.

Teaching is designed to combine fundamental concepts and the learning of methodological and technical tools.

It allows you to develop qualities of analysis and synthesis, expression and argumentation, which are very appreciated for pursuing studies or seeking employment.

Advantages of the training

  • Teaching team based on nationally and internationally recognized research laboratories

  • Individual monitoring of first year students

  • Use of digital technology in teaching

  • Possibility of supplementing your training with lessons from other Licenses through University Diplomas (DU)

  • Progressive specialization of students to promote their pursuit of Master's studies in ecology, specialization in the tropical environment

Targeted skills

Disciplinary skills:

  • ability to appreciate the organization and interactions within the molecules of the living world, cells, organisms and ecosystems

  • ability to work on the different levels of integration of the living world

General science skills:

  • ability to conduct an experiment

  • ability to use scientific software (data acquisition, analysis, etc.)

  • use of theoretical and practical tools (statistics, IT, etc.)

Summary of lessons by course

The following disciplinary courses are notably offered in:

License 1: scientific methodology, scientific methodology in chemistry, animal and plant biology, architecture and transformation of matter, geochronology: History of the Earth, formal and molecular genetics, cellular biology, introduction to ecology: organization and functioning of the biosphere ...

License 2: scientific methodology, scientific methodology in chemistry, animal and plant biology, formal and molecular genetics, introduction to ecology: organization and functioning of the biosphere, transformation of matter, reproduction and development of animals, ecology and environment, microbiology : bacteria, viruses and fungi, plant development and nutrition, mathematical tools, genetics of eukaryotes, prokaryotes and their viruses, biochemistry, nervous and hormonal communication, evolution and reproduction of plants, general and cellular immunology, etc.

License 3: Evolution, speciation, phylogeny, classification, organization and evolution of Metazoa, Feedback in human physiology, biostatistics, ecology of populations and communities, genes and ethics, plants in their environment and their uses, neurobiology etc.

Cross-curricular courses are also planned over the three years of the Bachelor's degree: English, Methodology and University Techniques (MTU), Open Teaching Units (UEO), digital culture, etc.

Intership

Mandatory worker-type internship of one month full-time in a company to validate the License, which can be carried out during all the years of the License in the form of one or more experiences

Specific devices

• License 1 Life Sciences – Individualized course 1:
o As part of this individualized course, the first year of the Bachelor's degree is carried out in the classic way in one year

• License 1 Life Sciences – Individualized course 2:
o As part of this individualized course, the first year of the License is also completed in one year. The particularity of this course consists in the fact that methodological support is added to the lessons. Methodological support is mandatory and takes place throughout the year. Several techniques are presented to students in order to be able to implement good university working methods as early as possible.

• License 1 Life Sciences – Individualized course 3:
o As part of this individualized course, the first year of the degree is completed over two years. This path is planned to allow students who need it to reduce the workload per year. The lessons of the first year of the Bachelor's degree are therefore spread over two years rather than just one.

• License 1 Life Sciences – License Access Santé (L.AS):
o Students in this course are intended to follow the courses of the Bachelor's degree in life sciences as well as courses in health offered by the UFR Santé of the University of Reunion.
o Students enrolled in the Health Access program are intended to apply for the entrance exams to the studies of Medicine, Midwifery, Odontology and Pharmacy (MMOP)

Conditions of access to training
