Training summary

The Civil Engineering Degree trains students for careers in the building, energy, town planning and environment sectors. Two routes are offered:

  • Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy and Environment (GCEE) course, the objective of which is to integrate into the building, energy and/or environment sector or pursue master's studies in Civil Engineering, science and engineering course construction

  • Civil Engineering course Urban Planning, Energy Transition and Environment (UTEE), the objective of which is to integrate into the sector of town planning, development and/or the environment or to continue studies in Master City and Urban Environments (VEU ) energy transition journey and development issues

Training aims

In just a few years, the environment has become a real social issue and the question of the impact of human activities on the environment is omnipresent in our current society. Both in politics and in economics, at the international, national or local level, environmental and ecological aspects are essential. The environmental challenges facing Reunion Island have been clearly defined in the Regional Innovation Strategy (SRI). The need for scientific and technical expertise becomes essential to assist in decision-making processes. These skills must be based on solid interdisciplinary training, combining various environments, physical, chemical and biological, in constant interaction, as well as all the knowledge linked to regulations and the city.

The Civil Engineering Degree is aimed at scientific students wishing to acquire skills in mathematics, chemistry, physics, etc. , but also in town planning, law, economics...

The courses offered are designed to reconcile fundamental concepts, the learning of methodological tools and the implementation of projects.

Advantages of the training

The Civil Engineering Degree is a technical and multidisciplinary degree which opens into the fields of civil engineering, town planning, energy and the environment.

It is a professional training course with an internship and lessons provided by professionals in the sector. The projects given to students come from the professional world.

Targeted skills

  • Identify the role and scope of civil engineering in all sectors: natural environments, industrial environments, urban environments, etc.

  • Identify the different stages and actors of a construction

  • Use the fundamental concepts of physics and mechanics to analyze and understand physical phenomena

  • Analyze civil engineering issues and translate them into mathematical form

  • Formulate a civil engineering problem with its boundary conditions, approach it in a simple way, solve it and conduct a critical analysis of the result

  • Use concepts and techniques to solve simple civil engineering problems such as resistance of materials, solid mechanics, structural calculations, fluid mechanics, thermal, acoustics, etc.

  • Validate a model by comparing its predictions to experimental results and assess its limits of validity.

  • Translate mathematical models in relation to civil engineering (structure of the work, technical and energy equipment) into a programming language

  • Identify the main families of materials and their characteristics

  • Use current techniques in the field of modeling and technical representation independently.

  • Use the basics of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) and those of scientific calculation in order to model simple structures in 2D and dimension them under simple requests.

  • Characterize the construction methods used throughout history and their impact on the energy performance of buildings and more generally on their sustainability.

  • Use regulations, standards and safety rules.

  • Use experimental techniques common in the field of civil engineering independently: for the study of materials, for soil-structure interactions, for development, and for infrastructure

  • Use reference digital tools and IT security rules to acquire, process, produce and disseminate information as well as to collaborate internally and externally

  • Identify, select and critically analyze various resources in your field of specialty to document a subject and synthesize this data for use.

  • Analyze and synthesize data for use.

  • Develop an argument with critical thinking.

  • Easily use the different registers of written and oral expression of the French language.

  • Communicate orally and in writing, clearly and unambiguously, in at least one foreign language.

  • Identify and locate the professional fields potentially related to the acquired knowledge of the mention as well as the possible paths to access them.

  • Characterize and promote your identity, skills and professional project based on a context.

  • Identify the process of production, dissemination and valorization of knowledge.

  • Identify your role and mission within an organization to adapt and take initiatives.

  • Respect the principles of ethics, professional conduct and environmental responsibility.

  • Work in a team and in a network as well as in autonomy and responsibility in the service of a project.

  • Analyze your actions in a professional situation, self-evaluate to improve your practice.
